OSHA chief John Henshaw has announced that following nursing homes, the next industries to receive voluntary guidelines to improve ergonomics are grocery stores and poultry processing operations.

Both have workers at high risk of experiencing repetitive motion disorders.

Henshaw expects draft guides for both industries to be circulated by the end of the year. Guides will be based on what he calls "industry best practices" and input from experts in those industries.

Explaining the use of guidelines over an ergo standard, Henshaw told the national ASSE meeting that "as a sailor I know that when you can't change the wind, you must adjust your sails."
