OSHA, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) are readying for the May 2nd start of the North American Occupational Safety and Health Week, an annual event highlighting workplace safety.

The ASSE, CSSE and OSHA use the week to better educate the public about the positive benefits that a safe workplace provides for workers, their families, businesses and communities. Also participating will be the Departments of Labor and Transportation, various lawmakers, and representatives from many industries and 55 different associations, societies and corporations,

Events will include a recognition of the children who won the ASSE’s workplace safety poster contest, a distracted driving presentation.
“In 2009, more than 4,000 people lost their lives from on-the-job injuries and never made it home,” according to a statement by the ASSE. “We’d like to move that number to 0.”
