New Howard Leight Impact Sport MIL earmuff provides active hearing protection, meets federal procurement requirements

November 1, 2012

Honeywell Safety Products hasintroduced a special version of the Howard Leight® Impact® Sport MIL sound amplification earmuff, providing passive hearing protection from firearms and other hazardous noise with enhanced situational awareness. This special version of the earmuff, produced in the United States, meets purchasing requirements set for US Federal government agencies and branches of the armed forces.

On the range and in the field, personal hearing protection from firearms and other hazardous noises must be balanced with one’s ability to hear range commands and maintain full situational awareness. Through sound management technologies, the Howard Leight Impact Sport MIL enables wearers to safely protect themselves from a wide range of noise and to stay connected with their environment without compromising their target performance.

The top selling electronic hearing protector in the shooting sports market, Impact Sport MIL is focused towards Hearing Conservation and shooting programs at government agencies, in law enforcement, and in certain military applications where soldiers and civilians are required to wear hearing protection on the shooting ranges, areas where hazardous noise is intermittent, and/or where clear communication is essential.

Situational Awareness

The Impact Sport MIL earmuff provides both passive hearing protection and enhanced situational awareness through ambient sound amplification and sound level limitation technologies. Impact Sport employs built-in directional microphones that amplify range commands and other ambient sounds up to a safe 82 dBA, providing more natural listening and enhancing communication. When ambient sound is above 82 dBA, the listening circuit automatically compresses the ambient sound down to a safe listening level. Additional features include:

  • Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) 22 for adequate passive hearing protection.
  • Sound amplification which may provide additional hearing assistance for users with existing hearing impairment.

Designed for Shooting

Impact Sport’s ultra-slim earcup design features cut-outs for full clearance of firearm stock, eliminating interference while shooting. Hunter green earcups provide additional coverage when in the field. The earmuff also features:

  • Convenient folding design for easy storage.
  • Included 3.5mm cable which connects to MP3 players or other personal listening devices.
  • Battery life of up to 350 hours, from 2 AAA batteries (included), and automatic shut-off after 4 hours.

Improved Comfort

From its padded leatherette headband to its easy headband adjustment for a secure, non-slip fit, Impact Sport offers increased comfort, especially for long-term wear. Additional features include:

  • Patented Air Flow Control™ technology for optimal attenuation across all frequencies with no increase in earcup size or weight.
  • Telescopic height adjustment for optimized comfort and fit.

The new Howard Leight Impact Sport MIL sound amplification earmuffs (SKU # R-01526-MIL) are immediately available for purchase from industrial safety and PPE distributors throughout the US.
