Supplier profile : ProBuilt Professional Lighting

Cutting-edge technology and a commitment to quality

September 5, 2013
Tell us a little about the history of your company.

ProBuilt Professional Lighting manufactures durable, innovative lighting products for a wide range of jobsite and industrial applications. Originally established with our core product the Wobblelight®, ProBuilt now offers a complete line of lighting products.

ProBuilt is a small company with ten employees and a full sales force of independent manufacturer representatives. ProBuilt manufactures the Wobblelight in the United States and our additional products in China and the UK. All of our products are warehoused in Mundelein, IL, just north of Chicago.

What has been your company’s business strategy to gain market share?

ProBuilt has focused on innovative and unique lighting products that can help create a safer work environment. Our goal is to offer products that are high quality, energy efficient and always on the forefront of technology.

Describe the core branded products of your company that you promote most heavily.

Wobblelight® — the only patented self-righting work light — provides the most cost-effective and high performing jobsite lighting solution for the construction and industrial markets.

The Hang-A-Light® temporary area work lights are designed with performance, energy efficiency and innovative features in mind.

The Defender® brand blends quality, innovation and performance into a broad range of lighting products for the construction, industrial and commercial trades.

The SmithLight brand of rechargeable, battery-operated LED work lights are bright and versatile lighting solutions.

The NightSearcher brand provides high-quality professional lighting products for the railroad, utility, LE/fire professionals from searchlights to floodlights.

How do distributors contribute to your success in the marketplace?

ProBuilt has around 300 distributors across the United States and Canada that cover the construction, industrial, utility, railway maintenance, fire and law enforcement markets.

Do you offer distributors training or other value-added services?

ProBuilt offers our distributors expert field support through our manufacturer rep network and our dedicated sales force. ProBuilt also offers marketing assistance to our distributors with customized marketing pieces, showroom displays, videos and onsite training.

What business characteristics do you look for when selecting to work with a distributor?

ProBuilt looks for distributors who sell value to their customers, are willing to support our program, are knowledgeable about their end-user base and want to bring new products to their customer base.

Do you have any recent news to report?

Tom Godsell has joined ProBuilt Professional Lighting in the newly created role of sales & brand development manager. Tom’s major focus will be growing the sales of our Defender® branded lighting products. Tom will also be conducting market research and strategic planning for future line extensions and the potential development of new product categories
for ProBuilt.

Describe your current financial picture.

ProBuilt has doubled our business in the last 3-5 years and we are on target to do this again in the next 3 years. Our continually strong pipeline of new products and our penetration into new markets has driven this growth.

What should distributors know about your company’s future?

ProBuilt is committed to developing new products with a focus on the developing LED market and energy efficiency of this product. Our goal is to always offer our distributor and end-user the most cutting-edge technology while keeping our commitment to quality.
