Last October, Melissa Stephens went to work on third shift at Autonium in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She never came home to her husband of 20 years or her four children. Stephens had apparently gone through the interlocked gate, to put a fiber pad over a broken seal. But a spinning belt and pully dragged her into a machine where she was crushed to death.

Indiana threatens to ignore power plant emissions rule

The state of Indiana is threatening mutiny over the Obama administration’s rule requiring states to reduce their power plant emissions to a rate determined by the EPA. Indiana would be required to lower power plant emissions by 20 percent.

A lawsuit filed by the Indiana Department of Labor alleges that Indiana Bell Telephone Co., an AT&T subsidiary, “has a practice and policy” of suspending employees after they report work-related injuries.
