Metlon Corporation Announces Addition of New 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material

March 14, 2011

Metlon Corporation, the Cranston, RI-based Authorized Distributor of 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material, announced that it has added to its product line the latest reflective solutions launched. The 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material - 8735 Flame Resistant Transfer Film and 3M Reflective Material - 9740 Industrial Wash Flame Resistant Transfer Film offer protection from heat, flame and arc flash hazards with the benefit of stitchless bonding for enhanced comfort, and greater durability, benefits designed for the worker. At the same time, these products produce a more efficient application process, reduce manufacturers’ cost, and create new design options.

“Broadening garment applications beyond the vest is a distinct advantage,” notes Metlon’s executive vice-president Wayne Etchells. “These two products now allow manufacturers flexibility of incorporating flame resistant reflective material to T-shirts, sweatshirts, rain gear and other daily applications for workwear.

Scotchlite Reflective Material – 8735 and 9740 flame-resistant transfer films are both NFPA 70E compliant and boast a sustained durability in both home washing applications, with 50 washes for the 8735 product, and industrial wash applications for the 9740 product. Extending the garments’ shelf life is a valued advantage to both the manufacturer and worker. This enhancement decreases the need to continually purchase new workwear.

Also, the films offer enhanced comfort and reduced manufacturing costs because they are laminated rather than sewn on. According to Etchells, “the lamination process also removes the edge typically found on sewn-on products, which improves aesthetics, reduces weight and minimizes arc flash catch points.”

Etchells adds, “we are encouraged by the latest example of how 3M ™ utilizes its core technologies to respond to industry needs. 3M is responding to the increased demand in the Flame Resistant product line, and to the manufacturer’s needs for compliant heat transfer films that are easier to apply, while providing more comfort for primary apparel.
