Craig Schroll, hazmat authority, passes away at age 54 (3/17)

On March 10, 2011, Craig Schroll, CSP, CET, 54, passed away. Craig was of the country’s leading authorities on hazardous materials training and confined space entry training. He lived in East Earl, Pa, near Lancaster, where he was president of his nationwide business, FIRECON, which he started in 1980. Prior to starting his business, Craig was an instructor at the Arkansas Fire Academy and a firefighter for the U.S. Air Force.

Craig did extensive volunteer work with ANSI standards committees, committees of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and groups ranging from the Lancaster County Industrial Safety Council to the Safety Institute of Australia.

Craig wrote cover stories and numerous articles for ISHN going back to the 1990s, and also provided the magazine’s editors with numerous interviews. His passion and tireless commitment for worker safety will be missed, as will his generosity, quick smile and laugh.

A post on the Safety Training LinkedIn discussion group states that it is Craig’s wife Penny’s desire to sell FIRECON, which includes two trailers and a storage unit full of training supplies. This will be done via a broker. If you know anyone who is seriously interested in looking into purchasing the business, please call Chris Strayer, Chief HazMat 2, Lancaster County Hazmat, at (717) 278-3670. He will help you connect with Penny or the broker.
