Noah Brobst, 5, of Trafford, Pennsylvania won in his age division.

The North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week ended on Saturday, but its themes will live on in artwork created by children for the American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) “Safety on the Job” poster contest.

The 7th annual event, co-sponsored by ASSE and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), featured speeches in Washington D.C. by OSHA chief Dr. David Michaels as well as ASSE President Darryl Hill, focused on the importance of preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace.

NAOSH activities also included interviews with the winners of ASSE’s poster contest. This year’s theme was “Celebrating a Century of Safety,” in recognition of ASSE’s 100th anniversary.

Tiffany Jade Heishman, a 10-year-old from Strasburg, Virginia, illustrated the importance of wearing seat belts in her winning poster.
