Military-approved tool case from Pelican now approved for civilian use (2/27)

February 27, 2009

Pelican Products announced in a recent press release that its combat-ready 0450 Tool Chest, built specifically for the U.S. military as the GMTK (General Mechanics Tool Kit), is now being introduced for civilian use.

The 0450’s structural grade, open-cell core, polymer construction is designed to protect tools from harsh conditions. With the ability to hold up to 100 lbs. of tools, the case has been tested to meet and exceed 96 demanding military standards that include high impact, extreme temperatures and submersion, the company says.

The tool case combines the flexibility of seven (six shallow and one deep) removable tool drawers designed for a multitude of configurations with the mobility and benefits of a Pelican Protector Case™. Additionally, the top compartment features a removable utility tray and a lid that opens 180 degrees to create a mobile workspace, capable of holding up to 50 pounds of weight, says Pelican.

For case security, two hybrid, double throw latches with butterfly compression technology (capable of withstanding 328 lbs. of pulling pressure each, according to the manufacturer) and two extra standard latches, work with a polymer o-ring in both lids to secure the case and maintain its watertight seal. Tool theft prevention comes in the form of extra-large, tamper-resistant, stainless steel padlock protectors. The case also sports two automatic pressure equalization valves (one in each compartment) that prevent vacuum lock and make the case easier to open at extreme altitudes.

The 0450 is engineered with a host of innovations designed specifically for ease of transportation. Advanced features include a widened wheel base to stabilize the case on soft and hard surfaces (so it won’t tip to the side during transport with a full load of tools). Additionally, it features a heavy-duty, extended pull-handle and extra thick polyurethane, stainless-steel, ball-bearing wheels for all terrain mobility. The 0450 features an extra-deep handle on each end of the case so it can be lifted from two positions when it’s open or closed. Foot-pads at the bottom of the case and depressions in the lid create a “Block In Pocket” design to provide for easy stacking and load management.

With an MSRP starting at $679.95, the case is available in two configurations:
  • With seven configurable tool drawers (six shallow and one deep).
  • Without drawers. A removable drawer slide chassis (included) will accommodate up to eight drawers. This allows the user to purchase optional drawer sets so they can create their own custom storage scheme.
Like all Pelican products, the case is backed by Pelican’s Legendary Lifetime Guarantee, “You Break It, We Replace It…Forever.”™
