National Safety Council Congress & Expo preview

September 1, 2007

Conducted annually since 1912, the NSC Congress & Expo is ranked among the top 200 tradeshows in the nation by Tradeshow Week. The well-established event, this year to be held in Chicago in mid-October, includes the National Safety Council’s annual meeting, the 2nd Annual Hispanic Safety & Health Congress, technical sessions, professional development seminars, and the exposition.

Marketplace of ideas
The NSC Congress & Expo offers more than 200 technical sessions that extend from broad-based cross-discipline to industry-specific topics. On the main floor, over 830 companies will be on display for between 15,000 to 18,000 attendees.

Educational opportunities
Technical sessions are offered Oct. 15-17. Professional Development Seminars are one-, two- or three-day seminars held at the beginning and end of the week of Congress. The subject categories for Technical Sessions and Professional Development Seminars for 2007 range from Accident/Incident Investigation/Root Cause Analysis to Security and Training.

Attendees of the conference & expo will earn continuing education credits at both technical sessions and professional development seminars. Visit http://www.eshow2000.com/nsc/guidelines.cfm to learn more about credit opportunities.

Hispanic Safety & Health Congress
The Hispanic component of the American workforce is expected to almost triple by the year 2050. NSC last year commenced the First Annual Hispanic Safety & Health Conference, which it will continue this year.

The conference offered technical sessions in Spanish and simultaneously interpreted into English, and adds 32 training programs, technical sessions and seminars.

Meet your host
The National Safety Council is a nonprofit, nongovernmental, international public service organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health. The NSC is a membership organization, founded in 1913 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1953. Members include more than 48,000 businesses, labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups and individuals.

Outside the conference
The third largest city in the United States, Chicago mixes the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Manhattan with an unassuming Midwest charm. Chicago prides itself on being one of the most accessible American metropolitan centers. The city is serviced by two major airports, O’Hare International (about 19 miles northwest of the city center) and Midway (nine miles to the southwest). Southwest Airlines primarily flies to Midway, while American Airlines and United Airlines have hubs at O’Hare; most other major carriers have flights to both.
