OSHA, Roofers, Announce Alliance (4/18)

OSHA Region 3, the Roofing Contractors Association, and the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local #30 have joined forces to promote workplace safety and health for employees in the local roofing industry, according to an OSHA press release.

"Roofing work historically has been an inherently dangerous construction operation," said OSHA's Philadelphia Area Office Director Albert D'Imperio. "This alliance will provide an avenue for OSHA to reach a community of small businesses and their employees with a variety of safety and health information."

The release noted that a major goal of the alliance will be to provide training to reduce or eliminate employee exposure to falls, as well as electrical and other roofing industry hazards. Alliance members will work together to establish a forum for the exchange of information on best safety and health practices in the roofing industry.

The partnership was launched with a signing ceremony on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at the roofers' union training facility in Philadelphia.

The Roofers' Local #30 supplies all of the contractors association's manpower resource.
