University of Maryland Junior Awarded Scholarship by ISEA

Meghan C. Hummel of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the Lincoln C. Bailey Memorial Scholarship presented by the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA).

Ms. Hummel is a junior at the University of Maryland-College Park and is expected to receive a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in May 2012. She is the daughter of Mr. Joe Hummel, who is a product development manager at ISEA member company HexArmor, a leading manufacturer of cut-resistant and puncture-resistant material technologies located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

With the scholarship award, Ms. Hummel plans to pursue graduate and doctorate degrees with the aspiration of becoming a physical therapist. She identified this career path as a natural fit based on the important roles sports and community involvement have played in her life. She has been consistently named to the Dean’s List and is member of multiple collegiate honor societies.

“While all of the applicants were deserving, Meghan’s application and letters of high recommendation made it clear that she truly values education,” noted ISEA president Dan Shipp. “Her willingness to put forth the effort necessary to achieve her goals reflects the essence of the scholarship’s spirit and ISEA is pleased to honor her accomplishments by recognizing her as this year’s recipient.”

An independent consultant affiliated with George Mason University, Fairfax, Va., selected Ms. Hummel from a pool of qualified applicants based on academic performance and other factors. The Bailey scholarship provides $2,500 each year to a deserving full-time student who is entering his or her junior or senior year at an accredited college or university in the United States. ISEA established the scholarship in 1989 following the death of a safety equipment industry leader who expressed strong interest in education throughout his long career.
