Pipe Marking Webinar

KEYWORDS: American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
3/13/13 10:00 am to 3/13/13 PST
Online
Contact: Jack Rubinger

Whether you manage a New York City apartment building, a wastewater treatment plant or a medical facility, it’s critical to know where the water, nitrogen, hydrogen and other substances are flowing -- for upgrades, maintenance, inspections and emergency response. Applying color-coded labels simplifies pipe and shut-off valve identification, especially when it needs to be done in a hurry. But pipe installation and marking can be a complicated process. If pipes are mislabeled for either direction or contents, results could be disastrous. Graphic Products is simplifying the process by hosting a free pipe marking webomar.

Hosted by Graphic Products' project manager Jim Bocci, the webinar covers the ANSI/ASME A13.1 standard, which provides basic guidelines used by general industry and is recommended for identifying most piping systems. Participants will learn about:

Why visual communication on piping is important

  • The ASME/ANSI 13.1 standard on pipe marking, which is the most popular for most industrial applications
  • How the ASME/ANSI standard relates to OSHA requirements
  • Protocol for label color coding, text style, text size, and location of pipe labels
  • Guidelines on creating pipe marking for ammonia refrigerant lines and components
  • Resources and products for implementing or redoing a pipe marking project

Graphic Products has also created other free, pipe marking resources including:

  • A fully-illustrated pipe marking infographic detailing ANSI/ASME color standards
  • Pipe Marking Best Practices Guide
  • Valve Tags Best Practices Guide
  • ANSI/ASME Pipe Marking Guide
  • Ammonia Pipe Marking Guide
  • Marine Pipe Marking Guide
  • Medical Pipe Marking Guide
  • Facility Pipe Marking Guide
  • Wastewater Pipe Marking Guide
  • Spanish Language Pipe Marking Guide
  • European Pipe Marking Guide

Pipe marking accessories also offered by Graphic Products include DuraLabel heavy duty valve tags which attach to valves via pre-drilled hole with cable ties and are used to provide operating instructions and display maintenance requirements. Pipe marking kits provide users with everything they need to get started on a project.

DuraLabel thermal transfer printers are bundled with free software for creating pipe markers, or users can opt to create them using MicroSoft Word or Open Office. DuraLabel printers and supplies are manufactured and distributed by Graphic Products of Portland, Oregon -- providing visual communications resources since 1970. DuraLabel offers more than 50 application-specific supplies and offers same-day shipping to meet just-in-time delivery requirements.
