Wiley X Inc. supports 2013 Workplace Eye Wellness Month this March

Gets behind annual educational effort of Prevent Blindness America

March 5, 2013

Wiley XIt's estimated by experts at Prevent Blindness America that more than 700,000 Americans injure their eyes at work each year. And that nearly 1 million Americans have lost some degree of their sight due to an eye injury. If there is any good news in these "eye-opening" statistics, it's that experts also believe that 90% of all workplace eye injuries could be prevented simply by wearing proper safety eyewear.

As a leading provider of protective eyewear products for the workplace, as well as military, government and recreational applications, Wiley X® Inc. is deeply invested in protecting the vision of America's workers. The company's concern for preventing critical eye injuries is a primary reason why Wiley X continues to support Workplace Eye Wellness Month, a nationwide information and education campaign conducted each March by non-profit Prevent Blindness America.

"We need to get the message out that nine of out 10 workplace eye injuries could be prevented simply by wearing proper safety glasses," said Wiley X Co-Owner Myles Freeman, Jr. "There are many reasons why workers don't wear protective eyewear - and when you consider what's at risk - none of them are good. At Wiley X, we've always believed that the key to protecting the vision of America's workers is to provide comfortable, stylish eyewear that people want to wear - and educating workers about the importance of wearing protection not just some of the time, but all of the time," added Freeman.

Wiley X offers a full line of Safety Series eyewear designed to protect against dangers in the factory, on the job site, in the workshop and even at home. Every pair of Wiley X sunglasses meets stringent ANSI Z87.1 High Velocity and High Mass Impact Safety standards, providing workers with OSHA-grade protection indoors and out.  Wiley X is the only premium performance sunglass manufacturer with this level of protection on every product it makes.

The company's Safety Series includes several popular Climate Control™ models, each featuring a removable, soft foam Facial Cavity™ Seal for added comfort and maximum protection against dust and debris. Other models in the Safety Series are designed for easy switching of lenses to provide optimal vision in every work environment.  Most models in Wiley X's Safety Series are Rx ready, making them an ideal choice for workers who require corrective lenses.  This solution eliminates the need for workers to wear cumbersome protective glasses over their prescription eyewear, and increases the likelihood that proper protective eyewear is used consistently.
