New Uvex HydroShield™ lens coating from Honeywell delivers revolutionary anti-fog and scratch resistance results

April 6, 2015

HydroShield

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today introduced Uvex HydroShield™ anti-fog lens coating, a groundbreaking technology that delivers up to 60 times longer fog-free protection and two times greater scratch resistance than competitive anti-fog coated products.* The coating’s superior anti-fog performance improves worker safety and productivity while its anti-scratch properties extend lens life.

“Fogging is the number one challenge workers face with safety eyewear. Obscured vision from foggy lenses leads workers to remove eyewear and wipe lenses clear – exposing them to potentially serious injury and reducing productivity,” said David Iannelli, senior product manager for Honeywell Safety Products. “With Uvex HydroShield, individuals can work fog-free longer than ever before, helping them stay safe and focused on the task at hand.”

Available on four top-selling Uvex® eye protection products, HydroShield coating is permanently bonded to the lens and will not wear off after extended wear or repeated cleanings. For a video illustrating the coating’s revolutionary performance and to request a sample, please visit uvex.us/HydroShield.

Uvex HydroShield coating is available on select Uvex products including Genesis®, Genesis XC®, and Protégé® safety glasses and Stealth®  safety goggles, all of which meet the highest standards for optical clarity and impact resistance, including the ANSI Z87.1-2010 and CSA Z94.3 standards. Genesis, Genesis XC and Protégé also meet the U.S. military ballistic impact resistance requirements for eyewear (MIL-PRF-31013, CLAUSE 3.5.1.1). Additional Uvex products will be available with HydroShield coating throughout 2015.

HydroShield was tested under the most stringent anti-fog standard in the world, the European EN 166/168 standard for personal eye protection. Under this test, a lens is soaked in water for two hours to simulate the cumulative moisture that lenses are subjected to over time from sweat, washing and work environments. After the lens dries, it is sprayed with steam and the time-to-fog is measured. During the test, HydroShield coated lenses remained fog-free for more than two minutes, outperforming lenses with competitive coatings, which fogged in a median time of less than two seconds.

HydroShield anti-fog coated eyewear is available now through major safety equipment distributors in the Americas. Contact the Honeywell Safety Products customer care department at 800-430-5490 for more information about HydroShield coated eyewear and where it may be purchased. Uvex brand safety eyewear is offered for sale by Honeywell Safety Products exclusively in the Americas. More information about the complete family of Uvex safety eyewear is available at www.uvex.us.

*Comparative lens life test performed using a Bayer Abrasion Test method and may vary between environment and application. Anti-fog performance based on independent lab test results when compared to median test results of competitive anti-fog coated products under EN166 and EN168 testing standards.
