Casella Boundary Guardian real-time monitor provides advance warning of excessive dust, noise and vibration

Web-based remote environmental monitoring system is ideal for construction, demolition and mining

July 20, 2015

CasellaHeightened awareness of environmental issues surrounding demolition and construction sites has resulted in growing complaints by nearby communities, especially in cases of visible dust, annoying levels of noise, or bone-rattling vibration. In the past, these complaints were both difficult and expensive for a company to resolve because the only solution were real-time environmental monitors. These stand-alone units required the physical presence of an 'in-house' trained professional to handle the monitoring.

To solve this problem, Casella has introduced its new Noise Guardian™ and Boundary Guardian™ web-based remote monitoring systems that elevate continuous monitoring of emissions to an unprecedented level of simplicity and power. By deploying this cost-effective system, users receive real-time email or text when noise, dust or vibration levels rise above acceptable levels so they can take appropriate action. Sound level measurement capability built into the units satisfies and exceeds local requirements for accuracy and calculation of important environmental metrics for day/night levels as well as hourly data. It also provides detailed time-history data that can illustrate noise fluctuations by time so it can be linked to onsite work activities.
Managing data produced when running a continuous monitoring operation can be daunting. But with the included Casella Dataview™ 24/7 software, reports are easily accessed in a simple on-screen view -- at any time or anywhere -- from virtually any PC, tablet, or smartphone with a simple, secure login. Formatted management reports are generated with user-defined time periods with as much or as little detail as needed. Data can even be superimposed onto a high-resolution map of the site, providing local residents and other interested parties with clearly understandable evidence of the contractor's commitment to environmental compliance.

Ruggedly protected in a compact, nondescript weatherproof housing, the system's components can withstand extremes of both tropical and winter weather conditions. Plus, the Noise Guardian and Boundary Guardian are remarkably simple to commission by non-technical personnel, while routine maintenance is minimal. The remote cellular communications are highly reliable, providing instant remote access to reports and real-time alerts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
