Hughes is now part of the Justrite® family

June 6, 2016

Hughes Safety Showers Ltd joins the Justrite® Manufacturing Co. family of industrial hazardous safety and environmental spill containment products. Hughes, a leading industrial safety shower and eyewash company, expands the Justrite product range for its customers in workplace safety, which includes laboratory, process or full-scale production environments.

“Hughes is a perfect complement to Justrite in both product and geographical fit. The two businesses create a stronger industrial safety company that will better serve our global customer base,” stated Mark McElhinny, Justrite President and CEO. “With our history of delivering quality products for storing and handling hazardous materials, it makes logical sense to enhance the offering, and with Hughes, there is no better way”

The Justrite products include:

  • Safety and Storage Cabinets - designed to store flammable liquids, corrosives, pesticides and other hazardous materials.
  • Safety Cans and Containers - offer safe handling and storage for flammable and/or hazardous liquids.
  • Outdoor Safety Lockers - promote safe storage, handling and disposal practices that minimize contamination of hazardous chemicals, while reducing worker exposure to hazards and injuries.
  • Spill Control and Environmental products – including collapsible berms with drive-through capability, decontamination and washdown berms and drip/leak protection and storm water control.

Paul Darlington, the longtime Hughes Sales and Marketing Director, now promoted to Managing Director, will oversee the business based out of Stockport, England. Russ Guffee, VP and GM for Justrite Engineered Solutions, will work with Paul and lead the North American business. By working directly with customers to provide an engineered product, and continuing to support its industrial distribution base, Hughes covers the regulated safety environment for the workplace, whether it be developed or remote regions.

John D. Hughes founded what became his namesake company in 1950 for the fabrication of pipe work and pressure vessels in the erection of pipelines and structural steelwork that catered to the chemical and petrochemical industries. In 1968, Mr. Hughes formed JD Hughes Fabrications Ltd to specifically manufacture emergency safety showers and eye/face wash equipment. Towards the late 1970s, founder’s son Tony Hughes took over the business and drew upon his engineering expertise and own ideas to further create and innovate the company that Justrite is now proud to own. With Tony Hughes remaining on in an advisory role for new product development, Justrite will continue to invest in research and development for the future.
