Global PPE market analysis (2015 to 2025)

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Market Analysis
November 1, 2017

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protects the user from heat, chemicals, electrical, airborne particulate matter and biohazards. PPE includes protective clothing, goggles, helmets, and other garments crafted to safeguard the wearer’s body from infection or injury.

This equipment can impose a barrier between the wearer and the working environment. There can be additional stress and discomfort while working and can weaken the ability to carry out their work. The product needs to be manufactured carefully and needs to be personalized for each purpose.

It is not always possible for the user to be completely risk-free if he uses the equipment. The major market trends are to produce customized safety measure. Comfort, fashion, and protection at the same time are expected from this industry.

Product insights

The hand and arm protection segment are estimated to lead the PPE market during the forecast period due to its increasing use in the manufacturing, construction and healthcare industries. The other classifications under products are protective clothing, foot & leg protection, respiratory protection, eye and face protection, head protection and others.

The reparatory protection segment is expected to grow in the forecast period due to the government norms which have been implied on several industries for the safety of the workers. There is a constant demand expected in the forecast period for protective clothing since they assure the protection of workers working in hazardous environments. The rise in chemical, pharmaceutical and oil & gas will increase the consumption of protective clothing in the forecast period.

End-use insights

The personal protective equipment market is classified into manufacturing, construction, oil & gas, healthcare, transportation, fire fighting, food, and others under end use. The fastest growing end-use segment is estimated to be the construction industry due to the increasing construction projects and consumer spending in developing countries such as India, China and Brazil among the other.

Workers in bridge construction, demolitions, roadway paving, and excavations are also estimated to drive the end-user industry. Government initiatives to construct airports, improve infrastructure among other construction is expanding the construction and manufacturing industry which needs high labor which in turn creates demand for PPE.

Regional insights

Currently, North America is the leading region in the PPE industry. The government has made it mandate for some industries to use PPE, the awareness for safety has to lead to its spread. Institutions such as Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act), states that every employer is responsible for its employee’s safety have also increased the PPE consumption.

During the forecast period, Asia Pacific region is estimated to be the fastest growing market. The economic growth in this region is creating demand for PPE in China and India with an addition to the increasing awareness about safety and the need for personal protective equipment.
