The 2018 Safety in Action™ Icon honorees were officially announced today, with the awards presentation taking place during the 2018 Safety in Action Conference on March 15 in Orlando, FL.

The 2018 recipients are:

• Donnie Massey, Shell Oil - Donnie is a Behavioral Safety Specialist for Shell Oil based out of Mississippi. His co-workers say, “When referring to [Shell’s] behavior-based safety program, [Donnie’s] name is synonymous.” They say he always takes the “initiative to challenge the status quo” and takes “personal responsibility with his safety leadership role within our company.” 

• Donny Owens, Owens Corning - Donny works as Lead Safety and Training Coordinator for Owens Corning in Newark, OH. Donny’s colleagues say he has become “a true safety advocate [who] lives our corporate creed of Owens Corning is a place where others come to learn.” 

• Kim Urie, BASF Corporation - Kim is the Exposure Reduction Process (ERP) Team Leader for BASF Corporation, based in Angleton, Texas. Kim’s peers say she is “a true business partner and a great person with a heart of gold. She always finds win-win solutions in a fun and friendly way.” 

The Safety in Action™ Icons is an annual award, presented at each year at the Safety in Action™ Conference (#SIA2017) which brings together thousands of people, across all industries to do one thing: improve safety at work. The Icons were peer nominated from organizations of all sizes, types and industry sectors.
