The Board of Certified Safety Professionals’ (BCSP) 2017 Annual Report has been released. The report highlights major accomplishments from 2017 and illustrates impressive growth of interest in and achievement of safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) certifications.
More than 8,200 BCSP credentials were achieved by SH&E practitioners in 2017, a greater number than in any previous year. Interest in certification also peaked, with over 11,000 applications submitted and 9,700 examinations administered. The Safety Management Specialist® (SMS®) certification, launched in 2017, had over 1,000 candidates sit for examination.
BCSP now has over 45,000 active credentials, an increase of greater than 17,000 since 2012.
Preparing those aspiring to represent the gold standard in safety certification, BCSP gave back to the profession by providing $262,000 to Graduate Safety Practitioner® (GSP®) Qualified Academic Programs (QAP), funding student scholarships and programs' accreditation through ABET or AABI. The BCSP Foundation has been established to continue this important work.
BCSP established or renewed several partnerships with industry stakeholders and extended credential recognition to valuable international safety organizations as well.
“BCSP made many achievements in 2017, each advancing the safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) profession and the SH&E practitioner,” writes BCSP Board of Directors Past-President C. Christopher Patton, CSP, SMS, ASP. “Such collaboration and recognition provides all involved a greater set of tools with which to strengthen SH&E practice.”
More details on BCSP’s accomplishments and the growth in certification can be read in the BCSP 2017 Annual Report.
