The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH^®)  and six of its Allied Industry Partners entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Indoor Air Quality Association’s (IAQA) Annual Meeting & Exposition in West Palm Beach, Florida. Frank Mortl III, CAE, ACGIH^®’s Executive Director signed the agreement on behalf of ACGIH^®.

The purpose of the MOU is to identify and recognize current standards and credentials developed and administered by the Allied Industry Partner organizations, and related industry organizations which includes The Assessment, Cleaning, and Restoration of HVAC Systems, better known as ACR, The NADCA Standard, as well as the Dryer Exhaust Duct Performance (DEDP) Standard, both developed by NADCA.

“Within the last year, ACGIH^® has made tangible increased efforts to support the broader Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) industry with a primary goal of adding representative expertise toward upholding the high levels of education, certification and adherence to standards/guidelines,” said Frank Mortl III, Executive Director of ACGIH^®. “This formal partnership strengthens the IAQ industry as a whole and positions future collaborations to better characterize our collective memberships.”

Organizations comprising the Allied Industry Partners group are: National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), American Bio Recovery Association (ABRA), Environmental Information Association (EIA), American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH^®), and Basement Health Association (BHA).

As part of the MoU, all those involved have agreed to cooperate and coordinate at a level that ensures maximum efficiency, utilizes available resources, and is consistent with the principles of all. The Allied Industry Partners will maintain close liaison at the senior level by the most effective means available to ensure that each organization is aware of the applicable functions and activities of the other. They will encourage their members to work cooperatively on the mutual review and revision of industry standards and authorized representatives from each organization will meet in-person, annually, to evaluate progress on the implementation of the MoU and revise and develop new plans as needed. The partners will also serve as a unified voice on regulation and legislative issues, where appropriate.

“It’s a privilege for ACGIH^® to enter into this partnership agreement, particularly at a time when our voluntary leadership has been so supportive of identifying synergies between industry organizations,” added Mortl. “This promises to be an engaged group of IAQ ambassadors that will draw upon applicable functions and available resources for the betterment of their individual constituents.”
