Two books now available from the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) can help occupational safety and health professionals expand their expertise.

The new ASSP Study Guide for the ASP Examination: ASP10 Blueprint thoroughly discusses all nine domains in the new Associate Safety Professional exam and contains a 250-question test to assess the reader’s readiness to pass the exam. The book includes examples, equations, charts and illustrations to help readers prepare.

“Earning the ASP certification is worthwhile for those who are either just starting out in the profession or want to advance without getting the CSP ,” said Rick Blanchette, ASSP’s manager of Technical Publications. “The book goes beyond exam preparation to serve as a comprehensive reference for the safety professional’s toolbox.”

The study guide is joined in the ASSP library by the new Petersen’s Safety Supervision, Third Edition, originally authored by Dan Petersen, one of the founding fathers of modern workplace safety practices. This revised edition uses new sources, information and research to validate Petersen’s practical approach to safety. Authors Kyle Dobson and Dave Johnson updated the classic book with effective techniques for coaching, hazard identification and accident investigation.

“Petersen’s principles that help guide a supervisor in carrying out safety responsibilities align with today’s emphasis on collaboration rather than the old command and control directives,” Blanchette said.
