CEMEX has received the 2002 World Environment Conference Gold Medal for International Corporate Environmental Achievement. The award is presented annually by the non-profit World Environment Center to honor a corporation that demonstrates leadership and contributes to worldwide environmental quality.

Mr. Lorenzo H. Zambrano, chairman of the board and CEO of CEMEX, accepted the award on behalf of the company's 25,000 employees in more than 33 countries and in recognition of the company's global leadership in sustainable development. Harrison Ford, actor and conservationist, presented the award at the WEC Gold Medal Presentation Ceremony and Dinner on May 17th.

CEMEX ranks as the third-largest corporation in global production and marketing of cement and ready-mix products. CEMEX is being honored for developing and implementing company-wide an environmental management system (EMS) policy that combines internal standards and international education and socially responsible outreach efforts.
