What can 'Brown' do for safety scholars? (2/8)

February 8, 2007

The American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Foundation recently received a generous donation of $35,000 from Georgia-based United Parcel Service (UPS), in support of safety, health and environmental (SH&E) education through the ASSE Foundation’s annual scholarship program.

UPS will award six scholarships this spring through the ASSE Foundation; four will be available for undergraduate junior or senior year students working towards a degree in SH&E and two UPS diversity scholarships for junior or senior year students from a minority ethnic background or racial group pursuing an undergraduate degree in SH&E. The scholarships range from $4,000 to $5,300 and will be named the David Iden Memorial Safety Scholarship.

Altogether, UPS has donated more than $296,000 to the ASSE Foundation since 1996.

Students can submit their applications for scholarships to the foundation from Sept 1. through Dec. 1 each year. Applicants must be full-time students pursuing a B.S. in occupational safety and health or a related field. Applicants must be student members of ASSE, have a GPA of 3.0 out of a 4.0 system, have a good academic standing, and be recommended by a safety faculty member.
