AIHA announces 2009 Fellow Award winners (3/27)

The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) has named 26 of its members as 2009 Fellow Award winners, according to an AIHA press release.

“It is a pleasure to present the AIHA Fellow Award to this year’s winners. Their extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to the profession and to the association make this occasion very special,” said AIHA Past President Donald J. Hart, PhD, CIH.

Members chosen to be Fellows have been nominated by colleagues in the profession for their significant contributions to the practice of industrial hygiene or related disciplines. The Fellow classification is limited to no more than 5 percent of the AIHA membership.

New 2009 AIHA Fellows are:

Thomas W. Armstrong, CIH, PhD – Principal Investigator, TWA8HR Occupational Hygiene Consulting, LLC; nominated by the Occupational Epidemiology Committee.

Garrett D. Brown, MPH, CIH – Associate Industrial Hygienist, Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Department of Industrial Relations, State of California; nominated by the Social Concerns Committee.

Mark S. Cameron, CIH – Senior Industrial Hygienist, Bureau of Forensics Services, California Department of Justice; nominated by the Sacramento Valley Local Section.

Gary N. Crawford, CIH – Principal, ENVIRON International Corporation; nominated by the Chicago Local Section.

Stephen C. Davis, MPH, CSP, CIH – Manager-Owner, LaCroix Davis, LLC; nominated by the Yuma Pacific Southwest Local Section.

Barbara J. Dawson, CIH, CSP – Global Occupational Health Competency Leader, DuPont Company; nominated by the Delaware Local Section.

John J. Earshen – President, Angevine Acoustical Consultants; nominated by the Noise Committee.

Lawrence M. Gibbs, CIH – Associate Vice President for Environmental Health and Safety, Stanford University; nominated by the Laboratory Health and Safety Committee.

David Hands, CIH, ROH – Industrial Hygienist, Ford Motor Company; nominated by the Aerosol Technology Committee.

Michael K. Harris, PhD, CIH – President, Hamlin & Harris, Inc.; at-large nomination.

William A. Heitbrink, PhD, CIH – Associate Professor, University of Iowa; nominated by the Engineering Committee.

Howard L. Kusnetz, CIH (Ret), CSP (Ret) – Retired, preferential consulting, pro bono consulting; nominated by the Yuma Pacific Southwest Local Section.

Christopher S. Marlowe, CIH, CSP, CHMM, QEP – Corporate Health and Safety Manager, Camp Dresser & McKee; nominated by the Environmental Issues Committee.

Gordon C. Miller, CIH, CHMM, CHCM, QEP – President and Principal, MM&A LLC; nominated by the Management Committee.

Richard Mark O’Mara, CIH – Group Leader, Corporate Industrial Hygiene Laboratory, Eli Lilly and Company; nominated by the Sampling and Laboratory Analysis Committee.

James W. Platner, PhD, CIH – Associate Director for Science and Technology, CPWR Center for Construction Research and Training; nominated by the Construction Committee.

Robert G. Radwin, PhD – Professor, Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, University of Wisconsin-Madison; nominated by the Ergonomics Committee.

Maura J. Sheehan, ScD, CIH – Professor, Environmental Health Program, West Chester University; nominated by the Aerosol Technology Committee.

Steven C. Smith, CIH – Industrial Hygienist, California Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Occupational Safety and Health; nominated by the Sacramento Valley Local Section.

Matthew M. Soltis, CIH, CSP – Corporate Health and Safety Manager, Tetra Tech NUS, Inc.; nominated by the Construction Committee.

Gary J. Spies, CIH, CSP – Director, Environment, Health and Safety, Pfizer; nominated by the Biological Monitoring Committee.

Robert D. Strode, CIH – Technical Director, Industrial Hygiene Services, Chemistry & Industrial Hygiene, Inc.; nominated by the Rocky Mountain Local Section.

Jeff V. Throckmorton, CIH – Senior Industrial Hygienist, Environmental Health & Safety, University of Utah; nominated by the Utah Local Section.

Susan Marie Viet, PhD, CIH, CET – Senior Industrial Hygienist, Westat, Inc.; nominated by the Occupational Epidemiology Committee.

William D. Watt, PhD, CIH – Associate Professor, Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences, Wayne State University; nominated by the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society.

Lawrence S. Wong, CIH – Program Manager, Environmental Health and Safety, University of California, Office of the President; nominated by the Environmental Issues Committee.

Nominations for the AIHA Fellow Award are accepted from AIHA local sections, committees, and special interest groups each year. At-large nominations also are accepted. The Awards Committee then evaluates the nominations and makes recommendations to the AIHA Board of Directors for final approval. Candidates must be AIHA members in good standing with at least 15 years of continuous membership.
