IRISS unveils new SMART training website featuring electrical safety training courses

Electrical safety training system meets internationally recognized OSHA & CSA standards

January 22, 2014

Vendor NewsIRISS, a leader in the electrical maintenance safety devices (EMSDs) and electrical safety training market, unveils their new Safety and Maintenance Academy of Reliability Technologies™ training website featuring online, electrical safety training courses available in English and French for both electrical and non-electrical personnel: to www.safer-ir.com.

“Electrical safety is at the heart of everything we do and it is essential to stay sharp with continual education for both electrical and non-electrical personnel,” explained Martin Robinson, CEO of IRISS Group. “Expanding our hands-on training with this supplemental online training helps reinforces the practices and principles essential for establishing a safe work environment for electrical workers.”

The Electrical Safety Training System (ESTS) focuses on workplace electrical safety and the application of industry accepted best practice consensus based standards to effectively manage the electrical hazards of arc flash and shock.  ESTS was developed with content consistent with industry adopted electrical safety standards, CSA Z462 and NFPA 70E and provides due-diligence for OH&S Regulation in Canada (CSA Z462) and OSHA in the United States (NFPA 70E).

Risk is inherent to all electrical work and almost every worksite today presents some form of potential electrical hazard.  This makes it critical that anyone required to work on or near energized electrical equipment knows how to safely work with and around it.  ESTS is about understanding the hazards of electricity and learning how to mitigate them.  Students will be guided through a Virtual Electrical Workplace (VEW) to illustrate the electrical hazards and safety concepts needed to be aware of when working with electricity.

By the end of the online training program, students will have a good understanding of the electrical hazards they face at work, the most effective ways to address them and how to plan electrical work tasks safely, how to operate within OSHA regulatory obligations and apply the tools from the NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, how to use electrical specific PPE/tools/equipment, what needs to be considered for emergency response and electrical incident reporting.

Electrical Worker Training for USA market applies content from NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace to allow students to identify and quantify shock and arc flash hazards.  It is a qualification level course for electrical workers covering applicable industry accepted practice consensus based standards. This course cost is $95/student with group discounts available.

Non-electrical Worker Training is an awareness level course for all non-electrical workers providing a basic level understanding of workplace electrical safety. This course cost is $45/student with group discounts available.

Electrical Worker Training for Canadian market applies content from CSA Z462 Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace to allow students to identify and quantify shock and arc flash hazards. This course cost is $125/student with group discounts available.

Corporate training accounts provide access to a number of useful tools used for managing the training of your staff in a simple, straightforward manner.  These accounts are free to create and require no ongoing fees.  Training history stored within your corporate account is never deleted.  Some useful features of your account include: bulk purchase discounts, user progress reports, automated user completion emails; staff certificate access, out of compliance reporting, staff account information management, and course distribution tools.  Quantity discounts are available with corporate accounts where you can then distribute these courses to your employees over time.  An additional benefit provided is a Resource Toolbox (RT) fully stocked with reference tables, forms, definitions, acronyms and graphics.

The Electrical Worker Final Assessment utilizes questions and three scenarios where the student interacts with the VEW.  Should the student answer the question wrong twice they are automatically rolled back to the appropriate module and required to re-learn the curriculum.

Upon finishing your training program, a wallet size Training Certificate of Completion in PDF format will be issued to your account immediately.  Additionally, all of your training history is stored within your training account. This includes time spent, course progress, exam scores and questions answered. This data is available for export at any time and is never deleted.
