Small businesses are prepared to adopt workplace wellness programs and, based on the kinds of health risks facing employees, are a good target for such health interventions according to new research published in this month’s issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine from the Colorado School of Public Health.

According to ISHN’s 2015 EHS State of the Nation subscriber survey, job satisfaction and job security both receive high marks from about two-thirds of respondents – 63% express satisfaction with their current work and 65% feel secure in their jobs.

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) awarded three members, Gary Barnett of Ocean New Jersey, Thomas Cecich of Apex, North Carolina and Don Jones, Sr. from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Fellow Honor, its highest distinction, recognizing their lifetime of commitment to worker safety and their leadership in the occupational health and safety field, at the group’s Safety 2014 meeting in Orlando this past June.

Following the opening of the online registration in July 2014, exhibitor applications for A+A 2015, International Trade Fair with Congress for Safety, Security and Health at Work, have been received at a steady rate. “The last A+A staging attracted a record number of 63,500 trade visitors from nearly 70 countries, impressively establishing A+A as the number one tradeshow on occupational health and safety.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Office for Total Worker Health (TWH)™ recently launched an Affiliate Program in order to increase the number of work environments that support the overall safety, health and well-being of workers. Inaugural members of the NIOSH TWH Affiliate Program include the University of Colorado, School of Public Health and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

I am very fortunate to be able to travel the world through my work. I just got back from Dubai and had a great trip!  It is so interesting to see other parts of the world and experience different cultures. In fact, I spoke to a group with participants from every corner of the world, and I do mean every corner.

It’s the EHS version of the Academy Awards: a media festival taking place in Frankfurt, Germany in 2014 will honor the best media productions about occupational safety and health. The International Media Festival for Prevention will give awards to films and multimedia applications that increase risk awareness on the part of employees or provide information on comprehensive safety topics.
