Five teams awarded a total of $55,000 for solutions to ensure protective clothing fits all workers

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), in collaboration with NASA Tournament Lab and HeroX, announced the winners of "The NIOSH Protective Clothing Challenge—Leaving No Body Unprotected.” The Challenge seeks solutions that consider the broad spectrum of U.S. workers in relation to factors that may influence fit such as body size and shape, gender, race, ethnicity, religious or cultural practices, or specific work tasks.
Getting workers to wear and continue using industrial PPE has challenged safety and health professionals since a California businessman began selling headgear made out of leather in 1898 – the first PPE.
Flame resistant clothing is an essential piece of safety gear, but these items get dirty just like any other piece of clothing. Washing and sanitizing FR clothing isn’t the same as doing a load of laundry at home.
Jan 6th, 2020 marked the official launch of our brand-new True North Gear® retail website. Both the True North and DragonWear brand sites will be merged under one parent website to create an enhanced online shopping experience. Milliken & Company (“Milliken”), a global diversified manufacturer with more than a century and a half of textile expertise, today announced that it signed a definitive agreement to acquire Polartec, LLC (“Polartec”), a strong global brand known for its innovative performance textiles for outdoor and military apparel, from Versa Capital Management, LLC (“Versa”). The acquisition is expected to close in June. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The global industrial protective fabric market is projected to reach $9 billion dollars by 2025, according to a new growth forecast analysis by Global Market Insights, Inc. Driving that growth: use by the chemical industry.
