International effort to enroll approximately 10,000 women

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Fundacao Oswaldo Cruz-Fiocruz (Fiocruz), a national scientific research organization linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, have begun a multi-country study to evaluate the magnitude of health risks that Zika virus infection poses to pregnant women and their developing fetuses and infants.
The number of cases of West Nile virus has grown dramatically in recent weeks and public health experts suggest that if the trend continues, this year’s outbreak may rank among the largest in U.S. history.
During the long Labor Day weekend, Americans will spend lots of time outdoors. Along with sunburns and poison ivy, people need to protect themselves from mosquitos that carry the West Nile Virus, which is being felt – sometimes with deadly results – in 47 states.
