Wildfires continue to range across parts of Tennessee, although rain yesterday helped firefighters rein in the massive blaze, which has killed at least seven people and consumed more than 15,650 acres. A number of people are still missing.
Cold temperatures, heavy snow, and treacherous ice storms are all risks of the impending winter season. “Severe winter weather can be dangerous and even life-threatening for people who don't take the proper precautions,” said Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region V acting administrator Janet Odeshoo.

Fifty percent of Americans have not discussed or developed an emergency plan for family members about where to go and what to do in the event of a local disaster, according to a 2014 national survey conducted by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Tests done this morning at a West Virginia water treatment facility show some improvement in water quality – a sign that area residents may soon be able to drink water from their own taps.
