The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), based in Des Plaines, Ill., on April 23, 2008, announced the results of their annual elections, including the new board of directors.

Voting was held in March among 32,000 occupational safety, health and environmental professionals, and involved 12 contests for senior vice president, vice president of finance, vice president of practices and standards, vice president for Regions II, IV, VI and VIII, and for area directors, according to the association’s release. The new officers will take their positions July 1, 2008.

Succeeding Michael W. Thompson, CSP, of Houston, as ASSE president for the 2008-09 year will be Warren K. Brown, CSP, ARM, CSHM. Brown is supervisor of safety at DMAX Ltd., of Moraine, Ohio, and holds a B.S. in Industrial Technology from Ohio University and an MBA from the University of Dayton. Brown has served on many ASSE committees and as the vice president for the council on professional development. He also served as Region VII vice president for two terms and is the recipient of the Culbertson Outstanding Volunteer Service award and the Region VII Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) award.

Succeeding Brown as president-elect is C. Christopher Patton, CSP, of St. Louis. Darryl C. Hill, CSP, of Auburn Hills, Mich., will serve as senior vice president. The vice president for finance will be James D. Smith, M.S., CSP., managing director for the Florida region of risk control services for Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, in Boca Raton. George W. Pearson, CSP, ARM, was elected to succeed Smith as the ASSE vice president for the practices and standards council.
