Board issues 3,000th Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) credential (7/27)

The International Board for Certification of Safety Managers recently issued its 3,000th Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) credential, according to a press release. This important milestone demonstrates the commitment by healthcare organizations to upgrade the performance of key safety-related positions.

Also known as the Board of Certified Hazard Control Management (BCHCM), the Board was established in 1976 as a not-for-profit organization for personal hazard control management and safety credentials. The CHSP designation, established in 1978, focuses on the importance of effective healthcare safety management to the performance of healthcare organizations.

BCHCM's CHSP Diplomates come from a variety of healthcare positions including safety, security, infection control, employee health, nursing, quality, senior administration, risk management, facility management, engineering, hazardous materials management, emergency management, fire safety, biomedical services, and environmental services. The CHSP program continues to attract healthcare professionals desiring to earn the most prestigious certification in healthcare safety.

Later this year, the Board will launch a Fire Safety Management (FSM) endorsement to the current CHSP designation. Those earning the FSM credential must hold the CHSP, submit a short application, and pass a 100-question exam. Those earning the credential will be authorized to use the designation CHSP-FSM.
