New packaged fume and dust collector for metal cutting offers high performance, safety, ease of use

Unit comes fully assembled and pre-wired

November 6, 2014

Camfil APC fume and dust collectorA new Farr Gold Series® Package (GSP) dust collector provides high performance capture of dust and fumes generated by CNC laser and plasma cutters. Three compact but powerful models are offered to handle air flows from 1,000 to 3,000 cfm at 8-in. wg. The collector comes with two, four or six HemiPleat® eXtreme Gold Cone™ filters with nano fiber media that handles the toughest dust challenges, meeting or exceeding OSHA permissible exposure limits (PELs) on most metal dusts.

Additional HEPA filter modules can be added to further increase efficiency when handling dusts with very low PELs such as hexavalent chromium produced in stainless steel cutting. The use of HEPA after filters also allows indoor recirculation of air in many applications for energy savings.

The Farr GSP collector offers "plug and play" performance: Each unit ships completely assembled, wired and ready to plug in. The assembled unit includes all internal electrical connections, an integrated inlet damper, filters, fan and cleaning system.

To safeguard against fire risks, the Farr GSP collector uses fire retardant filter media, a fire sprinkler in the clean air plenum, and a built-in spark baffle that reduces the chance of spark-generated fires. An optional smoke alarm detects smoke inside the clean air plenum and sends a signal to the controller to shut down the fan as well as the process (e.g., a cutting table).

Additional design features include:

  • Small footprint with top-mounted fan saves on floor space.
  • Access to all components is on the front side of the collector (except the two-cartridge model) for ease of use.
  • Diaphragm valves are mounted low for maintenance accessibility.
  • The discharge system uses a 20-gallon drawer on casters that slides easily in and out using a cam-operated lift system.
