4 questions businesses should ask before selecting a security or fire alarm company

1. Does the company have a good reputation?

One important thing to find out when searching for a security system or fire alarm system is the reputation of the company that is going to provide it. These are systems designed to protect lives and property, so both residential and commercial clients need to make sure they find an alarm company they can trust. There are a number of ways to assess reputation, from how long the company has been in business, to the reviews of their services online, all the way to whether or not the company is a member of the Better Business Bureau.

2. What kinds of systems is the company able to offer?

The better alarm system companies will offer a versatile range of systems, both on the fire and the security sides. From smoke detectors and burglar alarms to security cameras, carbon monoxide alarms, and even video surveillance systems that can be monitored on the go from a mobile device. It's often true that the companies with the most extensive and advanced range of alarm systems are also the best.

3. Will the company help to choose the right security or fire system?

Sometimes, a homeowner or business owner will know exactly which type of security system they want and simply need to find a company that can install it. More often, clients come to alarm system providers seeking insight on what kinds of systems are ideal for them, how much equipment they need, and which brands offer the highest quality alarm systems. When searching for an alarm system provider, it's important to find a company that is willing to take the time to understand a client's situation and offer advice about that client's alarm system needs.

4. Which company will monitor your system 24/7?

Both fire alarms and security systems need to be monitored for the appropriate authorities to be promptly notified in the event of an emergency. Many alarm system providers will offer central station monitoring services when they install an alarm system. However, not all companies monitor the system themselves. In fact, most companies use 3rd party monitoring companies to monitor accounts. Therefore, it's important to understand which company is monitoring your fire alarm or security systems, and whether or not that monitoring happens 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Additionally, you should make sure that your monitoring company has the proper qualifications. Some central station monitoring facility qualifications include UL Listed, FM Approved and CSAA Five Diamond certifications.
