James Wiedow, Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety Manager for Isolatek International of Stanhope, N.J., has been named the 2016 Safety Professional of the Year (SPOTY) by J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc.

Wiedow, a 30-year veteran in safety, knows first-hand the importance of safety in the workplace. Witness to a horrific forklift accident early in his career, he vowed to make safety a part of his life both professionally and personally. At Isolatek, a fireproofing manufacturing company, Wiedow has spent the last two years building an entire safety and compliance program from the ground up. His program includes creation of an EHS framework scorecard, bi-monthly reporting, and quarterly site visits. In addition, he is focused on continued training and SDS system management.

Krystal Davidson, Safety Coordinator at Precision Parts and Remanufacturing in Oklahoma City, Okla., earned the second-place SPOTY award. Davidson created a monthly newsletter and is working on implementation of continued programs that recognize employees going above and beyond when it comes to safety. She is in the early stages of a “RAISE the Bar” campaign that represents responsibility, awareness, initiative, safety, everybody. This program is designed to not only raise safety awareness but also give the employees safety goals to work towards.

Amjad Jaouni, Environmental, Health & Safety Manager for United Technologies Corporation in Miami Gardens, Fla., received the third-place SPOTY award. Jaouni has worked in the Aerospace Industry for nearly a decade. His safety program includes Personal Choice, Hazard Hunts and Risk Reduction Maps. This philosophy offers all employees the opportunity to participate, engage in, and be held accountable for the success of the overall safety program.

“We had a lot of great applications this year, making it hard to select our winners. However, these three, should be commended for their remarkable commitment to employee safety,“ said Rustin Keller, executive vice president & COO at J. J. Keller.

The winner will be recognized in a ceremony at J. J. Keller in October. Each winner will receive a cash prize, plaque, certificate and complimentary KellerOnline® subscription. Since 2002, J. J. Keller has recognized industry professionals who have demonstrated unique, engaging and effective approaches to their safety programs, awarding over $200,000 in cash and prizes through the SPOTY award program.
