PROTO® Industrial Tools launches new tethered tools system

Designed to improve jobsite safety and drop prevention practices

June 20, 2017

PROTO® announces the SkyHook™ Tether & Transfer System as well as tether-ready hand tools and attachments. The SkyHook™ system helps end users comply with drop prevention practices, fulfill safety requirements, and work productively while at height.

The Skyhook™ System offers next generation safety technology, including more secure hand tool transfer at height, a light and tight tethering system, natural freedom of motion, and tool accountability. The Skyhook™ can be used with hand tools up to 6lbs and can be secured to wrist straps, tool belts, tool bags, or other accessories that contain SkyDocks.

Ordinarily, end users are challenged with unwanted safety hazards on the jobsite while working at height. Although many employ the use of lanyards to eliminate possible dangers at the jobsite, some still create a problem because they are either too long or too short. Impractical lanyards also have the potential to cause injuries when working at height and in close proximity to moving objects.

PROTO’s Skyhook™ system provides a solution that is essentially hands-free. The design includes active attachments that are always engaged during transfer from hand-to-hand, person-to-person, or hand-to-holster. PROTO tethered hand tools only require a short lanyard from wrist-to-tool so if a tool is dropped, it only falls a short distance, decreasing hazardous risks.

PROTO even has something for the end user who prefers to retrofit their existing hand tools for a tethered solution. This tethered tool system includes a variety of attachment accessories for hand tools that attach depending on tool type, mobility required, and weight. Hand tools like screwdrivers, punches, and hex keys can be retrofitted with flexible tool collars for fast installation and 360° mobility to prevent tether entanglement. PROTO also offers eight different size collars, which do not require additional tools for installation. Heat shrink loops come in seven different sizes and weight ratings to accommodate a wide range of hand tools. Heat shrink loops are versatile attachments for various tool types with “narrowed” geometry like wrenches, hammers, etc.

The PROTO line is available through all existing PROTO Industrial distributors, and is covered by the same limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects as all PROTO hand tools.
