DEKRA opens chemical reaction hazard lab in Shanghai

Continuously strengthening their global testing facilities across three continents

DEKRA
June 7, 2018

DEKRA, a global partner for a safe world, has announced it is opening a chemical reaction hazard laboratory in the demonstration area of the national public inspection and testing service platform-Jinan District, Shanghai. This latest chemical reaction hazard laboratory adds to DEKRA’s strong global presence with Process Safety related testing facilities on three continents.

The new Shanghai laboratory expansion covers an area of 100 square meters and will have state-of-the-art laboratory technology and extensive specialist capabilities in chemical process hazard assessment and two-phase flow emergency relief system design for runaway reactions.

Combined with cutting-edge testing capabilities such as reaction calorimeter Mettler Toledo RC1, Accelerated Rate Calorimeter (ARC), Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Rapid Screening Device(RSD), and Vent Sizing Package 2 (VSP2™), DEKRA’s new laboratory can clearly define chemical reaction hazard and design measures either to prevent runaway reactions from occurring or to mitigate the consequence of runaway reactions based on the company’s global design capability of two-phase flow emergency relief system.

DEKRA’s laboratory inauguration was marked by an opening ceremony on 22 May, 2018 at the Shibei HI-TECH Park Business Club. In attendance from DEKRA will be Mr. Stanislaw Zurkiewicz – Chief Regional Officer of DEKRA East Asia, Mr. Michael Kuepper - Senior Vice President of DEKRA Process Safety and Dr. Guibing Zhao - Process Safety General Manager of DEKRA China.

“China is experiencing large scale growth in all sectors, accompanied by an increased need for safety. As the globally recognized specialist organization in the field of process safety consulting, laboratory testingand training we ensure that our clients understand their risks. As trusted advisors and thought leaders we develop pragmatic solutions for our clients. This new facility along with our other testing laboratories in the region enhances our leading position and brings innovative and practical solutions to the Chinese market.” said Michael Kuepper, globally responsible for DEKRA’s Process Safety business.
