Among the many events organized around this year’s World Hearing Day is a Wikipedia Edit-a-Wikipedia Edit-a-ThonExternal led by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Established by the World Health Organization, World Hearing Day is held on March 3rd every year and is aimed at raising awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world. The theme of the 2019 campaign, organized by the World Health OrganizationExternal (WHO), is “Check your hearingExternal,” as data from both developed and developing countries indicate that a significant part of the burden associated with hearing loss comes from unaddressed hearing difficulties, according to NIOSH.

Many people live with unidentified hearing loss, often failing to realize that they are missing out on certain sounds and words. Checking one’s hearing would be the first step towards addressing the issue.

The edit-a-thon is intended to help increase the contribution of hearing-related content into Wikipedia in several languages. If you have knowledge to share, you don’t have to wait until March 3; editing is going on now and is open through March 31.
