The BCSP Foundation and Kyle B. Dotson, CIH, CSP, BCEE, founder of DOTSON Group, LLC, an EHS Safety Services organization, are pleased to announce the recipient of the new Dotson Emerging Professionals Award.

Rory Mele, ASP, CHST, is a dedicated safety professional with 15 years of industrial experience, having spent eight of those years in the safety field. He currently serves as the Director of EHS at BHI and as a Public Affairs Officer for the Army National Guard. He exhibits ambition toward influencing a workforce that not only leaves work each day in a safe and healthy condition but arrives the next day with the enthusiasm and drive to work in a safe and productive manner.

"I am eager to make a real impact in the health and safety field," said Mele. "I'm working on drafting legislation to enhance workers' compensation laws and boost mental health access for construction workers and their families."

Mele was chosen based on his current contributions to the profession and his capacity to advance as a leader within the safety profession. He received a monetary award, will be recognized at the biennial BCSP Foundation Research & Innovation Summit in August, and will be featured on the BCSP Foundation's website and social media accounts.

Mele achieved a Master of Science in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management from Eastern Kentucky University with a 4.0 GPA. He is an Associate Safety Professional (ASP), a Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), and he has received the Rising Stars of Safety award from the National Safety Council. He was instrumental in helping BHI achieve the Diamond Award with Five Stars and the Diamond Award with Four Stars from the Associated General Contractors of Utah.

The Dotson Award was created in honor of the appreciation for the mentorship and financial assistance that aided Kyle Dotson in his career journey. The award is a monetary grant that seeks to recognize and encourage early career professionals that have displayed excellence and leadership in the profession.
