Our "Pros vs. AI: Spot the Safety Issue" challenge is designed for safety professionals to test their skills in identifying hazards and associated risks in real workplace scenarios. Participants compete against Artificial Intelligence (AI) in analyzing photos of actual workplaces.

Goals of the challenge:

1. Demonstrate the potential of AI in risk assessment and its application in professional environments.

2. Provide readers with the opportunity to compare the approaches of professionals and AI in analyzing safety scenarios.

3. Enhance participants' knowledge of risk identification through the sharing of different experiences.

Key Terms:

• Hazard: A potential source of harm (e.g., a slippery floor, sharp objects.)

• Risk: The likelihood that a hazard will cause harm (e.g., the risk of slipping on a wet floor.)

The contest focuses on identifying and analyzing real hazards, without reference to legal violations, which may vary across different states.

General Guidelines

1. The challenge will run on ISHN’s LinkedIn page from February through November 2025.

2. A different picture will be posted each month. Participants analyze a photo of a real workplace.

3. The participants' task is to identify all of the hazards and their associated risks using logic and professional knowledge.

Stages

1. Photo Publication:

• on the first Friday of each month, ISHN will posts a workplace photo on its LinkedIn page.

• Participants can submit their comments under the post

2. Role of AI:

• After the comment submission deadline, the jury asks the same question to the AI (ChatGPT 4.0.)

• The AI's response is published with the end of the comment submission period.

3. Response Analysis:

• The jury reviews all participant comments and the AI's response.

Scoring Rules

1. Scoring Criteria:

• The jury awards 3 points for each correctly identified hazard and its associated risk.

• Partial or debatable answers receive 1 point.

• Incorrect answers (e.g., identifying hazards that do not pose a risk) are penalized 1 point.

2. Final Score Calculation:

• For participants, the total score is divided by the number of participants to calculate the group's average score.

• The AI's score is calculated separately.

• In addition to the group average, the jury tracks individual scores for each participant.

3. Feedback:

• On Thursday, the jury publishes feedback on the photo, including explanations and clarifications.

Challenge winners

1. Monthly Winner:

• The monthly winner is the one with the highest score: participants or AI.

• In case of a tie between the participants' group average and the AI's score, the month ends in a tie.

2. Individual Recognition:

• The winners will be announced on ISHN’s LinkedIn page

3. Winner of the Year

The overall winner, either the readers or the AI, will be determined based on the results of all rounds.
