Casella’s VAPex Pump Achieves IS Accreditation in US, Canada

Casella, air sampling, noise and vibration specialist, has achieved Intrinsically Safe (IS) rating on its advanced and lightweight low flow pump, the VAPex, by the Testing, Certification and Field Evaluation Body, QPS Evaluation Services Inc, that issues accreditation in Canada, the USA and Internationally.

Intrinsically Safe equipment is designed and tested to ensure safe operation in hazardous or explosive environments by limiting energy levels to prevent ignition with any airborne substances such as gases and vapors.

The VAPex, with a flow rate of 20mL to 500mL/min, is intrinsically safe and assists industrial hygienists in the measurement of chemical exposure levels such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), where long term exposure can lead to severe, chronic health issues, including damage to internal organs and the nervous, as well as an increased risk of cancer. The pocket-sized sampling device allows the user to easily be worn around a site, equipped with a run time of over 34 hours under typical operating conditions. In addition, the VAPex pump is designed with three LED lights that allow clear indication of the pumps status.

A headache for many industrial hygienists is aligning written notes and sample data collected on site. However, using the VAPex Pro in conjunction with Casella’s Airwave App via Bluetooth, industrial hygienists have access to an easy-to-use system that enables the operator to record their notes and input data instantaneously, using a tablet or mobile device.  The Airwave App can also be used to check the pump remotely, saving time by preventing the need to disturb the wearer of the pump.

Phil Bradley, Managing Director at Casella explains, “Our VAPex air sampling pump was designed with ease of use and worker safety in mind, including in hazardous environments. We are pleased to have attained these new certifications that allow its use in hazardous environments across Canada and the US. Industrial hygienists in North America can now use this innovative product to measure a workers exposure to VOCs and gases in the workplace.”

Casella is dedicated to reducing occupational health and environmental risks and supporting businesses with their monitoring and analysis needs.
