Buyers' Guide: foot protection

November 27, 2000

SLIP PROTECTION

ICEGRIPS® High Traction™ footwear from Jordan David is designed to reduce slips and falls outdoors in winter weather. They fit over work shoes and boots and feature 36 aggressive hex-head screws that bite into ice and snow for maximum traction. Jordan David, Horsham, PA.

MAGNETIC INSOLES

John Deere has introduced the MagneForce line of work boots with magnetic insoles in the boot’s actual construction. Users can take advantage of the benefits of magnets without worrying about the hassles of application. The magnet power penetrates the wearer’s foot to a depth of two inches, increasing blood flow, bringing natural pain relief, and stimulating the wearer’s energy level. John Deere Boots, Chicago, IL.

PROTECTIVE WORK BOOT

Bata Shoe Co. has introduced a new design — Generation 2000 — for its family of PVC protective work boots. Sole features include greater surface contact for increased stability and comfort. Its lowered toe spring design distributes weight better, reducing stress on the back. Bata Shoe Co., Inc., Belcamp, MD.

WORK BOOTS

Rocky® 16-Hour Series work boots feature the Foot Support System (FSS) and a blown rubber Goodyear outsole. The 6-in. and 8-in. steel toe and 8-in. non-steel toe models are all backed with Rocky’s 30-day comfort guarantee. Rocky Shoes and Boots, Inc., Nelsonville, OH.

SAFETY SHOE

Lehigh’s Model 1106 men’s 6-in. safety shoe features a thermoplastic urethane foot; a one-piece, oil-resistant polyurethane outsole and heel; a removable, polyurethane cushioned insole; a padded collar; AEROLINER™ linings; and more. The shoe protects feet from water and chemicals and offers improved traction on ladder rungs. Lehigh Safety Shoe Company, Endicott, NY.

SAFETY TOE HIKERS

Thorogood Footwear by Weinbrenner introduces two men’s and two women’s safety toe hiker styles. Called TGs, they feature oil-tanned leathers; full linings for drier, cooler feet; padded leather tongues and collars; and cushioned insoles. Weinbrenner Shoe Co., Inc., Merrill, WI.

WORK BOOT

Lacrosse/Rainfair’s new Max Trax™ boot features the Advanced Traction System™ outsole for maximum slip resistance. The work boot provides comfort in cold environments. The leather upper is completely waterproof and insulated with a 3M Thinsulate® lining. Lacrosse/Rainfair, Racine, WI.

SAFETY TOE

Hy-Test offers the SEMC® (Structurally Engineered Moldable Composite) safety toe, designed to retain heat better in extreme conditions. The lightweight, non-metallic toe is constructed to be more impact-resistant in cold temperatures and does not conduct electricity. It exceeds ANSI standards. Hy-Test Safety Footwear, Rockford, MI.

SLIP-RESISTANT BOOT

Shoes for Crews® has introduced the rugged Expedition slip-resistant boot. This 6-in. steel-toe work boot features Goodyear® welt construction, waterproof nubuck leather, and cushioned insoles. Shoes for Crews, West Palm Beach, FL.
