Richard L. Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, issued the following press statement today:

“Our nation needs a comprehensive approach to energy and climate issues — one that will invest in our future and create good jobs. It is vital to the national security, economic, and environmental interest of the nation. Despite the best efforts of leading Senators and the Obama Administration, the Senate remains gridlocked. Senator Reid has introduced a modest energy bill that will address immediate concerns over the tragedy in the Gulf, home weatherization, and advanced automotive technology and other issues. While these have merit, the labor movement has come together with allies from business to the environmental community to craft legislation that will retain and create good jobs and lead to a cleaner planet. The AFL-CIO remains committed to this 21st century vision. We urge Congress and the Administration to act.”
