The Global Journal, based in Switzerland, has published an exhaustive list of the 100 most powerful non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the world, from among 450 NGOs in 27 countries. Here are the top ten:

10 - Mercy Corps

Serves as a bridge between relief and recovery. HQ Location: United States.

09 - Cure Violence

Treats the epidemic of violence. HQ Location: United States.

08 - Médecins Sans Frontières

Focuses on emergency care. HQ Location: Switzerland. Catalyst for the “without borders” movement.

07 - CARE International

Leads the fight against global poverty. HQ: Switzerland.  Longstanding history of emergency relief and international development.

06 - Ceres

Fighting for the future of sustainable capitalism. HQ location: United States.

05 - Partners In Health

Morality-based medical services. HQ location: United States.

04 - Danish Refugee Council

Sets the standard in complex emergencies. HQ Location: Denmark  Formed after the devastation of World War II and the European refugee crises triggered by the Soviet invasion of Hungary in 1956.

03 - Acumen Fund

Started with seed capital from the Rockefeller Foundation, New York-based Acumen Fund is described by The Gobal Journal as “the Altruistic face of venture capitalism. HQ Location: United States.

02 - Wikimedia Foundation

In 11 short years, Wikimedia Foundation’s flagship initiative –online encyclopaedia Wikipedia – has revolutionized the way knowledge is collected and shared. Crowd-sourcing knowledge worldwide. HQ Location: United States.

01 - BRAC

BRAC (formerly the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) is called by The Global Journal, “the Agile Giant of the Development World. HQ Location: Bangladesh .
