ISHN Guest BlogThe opening to my presentation, Ensure Your Safety is the question, "Why do you want to work safely?"

I hear many answers such as:

"For my family."

"So I can enjoy my time off."

"I don't like pain."

"So I can enjoy my retirement."

"Because I don't want to see my fellow workers hurt."

At a supervisors meeting, I heard what should be a new one for all workers, "I want to be able to work."

I don't mean avoiding an injury that would take you out of the workforce. What I do mean is more and more companies are not allowing people to work on their site who have violated safety procedures. One leader put it very clearly,

"If someone isn't smart enough to follow a simple safety rule, then they aren't smart enough to work for us."

The result is if someone has a safety violation, they are banned from working at that company's sites for at least a year.

Take time to remind your employees and your contractors that safety is important to them so they can keep working in the years to come.

Yours in Service,
John
