AVO Training Institute announces two new courses available for enrollment

Infrared Thermography and Circuit Breaker Maintenance- SF6

October 7, 2013

Avo Training InstituteIn keeping with AVO Training’s philosophy of offering the types of Electrical Safety Training Courses industry and utilities require today, two new subjects have been added to the over 50 courses currently available at the Institute.

Infrared Thermography Level I: This training is designed around the entry-level infrared camera user and will benefit the student who has a desire to learn the basics of infrared thermography. The student who completes the training requirements and a thermography field assignment will receive an Infrared Thermography Level I certification. The course will teach the basics of infrared, how to operate the camera under different conditions and how to make a judgment of the measurement situation in the field and identify potential sources for error. The student will interpret thermograms and make informed decisions using heat transfer concepts to analyze thermal images and learn to distinguish between hot spots and reflections and direct versus indirect readings. An Infrared Thermography Level II course will be added during 2014.

Circuit Breaker Maintenance- SF6: Today as utility infrastructures are reaching middle age and the number of equipment replacements is growing, oil-filled breakers are being replaced almost exclusively with SF6-filled equipment. SF6 now dominates the higher voltage classes, and all indications are that this trend will continue through the lower voltage classes. This hands-on course intended for new or experienced electricians and technicians that install, maintain, repair or troubleshoot SF6 circuit breakers rated at 34.5 kV and higher. This course covers all elements of SF6 circuit breaker maintenance, from routine inspection to major overhaul. A balance of lecture and hands-on activities are utilized to emphasize operating characteristics and maintenance and testing requirements. Instruction includes the hazards involved in working with SF6 gas as well as the important differences between SF6 circuit breakers compared to conventional insulating mediums.

About AVO Training Institute: A Megger® subsidiary, AVO celebrates its 50th year of keeping people safe from electrical hazards. From equipment application and maintenance procedures to safe work practices, arc flash hazard analysis and engineering services; AVO is the complete one-stop electrical safety learning center. In addition to classroom lecture our difference is our hands-on approach to training. Courses are available at campuses nationwide or on-site.
