NETA presents premier electrical maintenance and safety event in 2014

electrical hazardsSafety, reliability, equipment, transformers, and case studies, will be the focus on the first day of PowerTest 2014, Monday, March 3, 2014. PowerTest is an event hosted by NETA (InterNational Electrical Testing Association).

Attendees can choose from 27 unique, 45-minute technical presentations including the option to attend a three-hour symposium covering power transformers. NETA Certified Technicians who need Continuing Technical Development Credits (CTDs) as well as other industry professionals needing continuing education will benefit from the broad range of topics presented by leaders in the industry.

Electrical Safety – Six presentations on electrical safety are showcased. Dennis Neitzel, AVO Training Institute, will present his program Industrial Electrical Safety Compliance Assessments. Other programs will focus on the safety of arc-flash detection systems, maintenance intervals for circuit breakers, and developing a work site protection program. Reliability – This track includes six presentations, including Keeping the Lights On – Update on Testing Medium-Voltage Cable and Switchgear Systems, by Ashley Harkness, Electrical Reliability Services. Other presentations cover implementing symmetrical components into relay testing, approaching power quality and reliability problems, and performing a power survey. Equipment – In one of six presentations on equipment, Noah Bethel of PdMA Corporation will present Process Analysis – Your Intel to System Knowledge. Other equipment topics presented by subject matter experts focus on simplified motor relay testing, optimizing stator end-winding vibration monitoring, high-voltage circuit breaker testing, and current transformer saturation and residual magnetism. Case Studies –In one of six presentations, Wally Vahlstrom of Electrical Reliability Services presents Failure Investigation Case Studies. Others include a new approach to circuit breaker analysis, deploying thermal imagers at the technician level, and transformer drying in the field. Transformers – Three presentations are featured in this track, including William Keith Hill’s I Know How to Add the Numbers – But What is the Power Factor Telling Me? Hill, from Doble Engineering, was voted one of the favorite presenters at PowerTest 2013. Another example of what is included in the Transformer Track is a focus on water distribution and migration in transformer insulation systems. The PowerTest 2014 Power Transformers Symposium will also be held Monday and will be moderated by Pat Beisert of Shermco Industries.
