IRISS IR Windows achieve internationally recognized DNV certification

Largest Maritime & Offshore Industry Classification Society Confirms IRISS IR Windows are Ideal for Harshest Environments

January 14, 2014

IRISS, a leader in the electrical maintenance safety devices (EMSDs) market, receives DNV accreditation to add to their growing list of over a dozen certifications for their infrared (IR) windows.

The IRISS VP and CAP Series industrial-grade IR windows for thermal electrical inspections are the only windows approved by DNV for use in marine and offshore applications. In combination with existing IEEE, UL, Lloyds, CSA and ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) credentials, DNV accreditation makes IRISS IR windows the perfect choice for preventative maintenance of energized electrical equipment in line with NFPA 70E electrical safety standards and SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations.

“The maritime and offshore industry heavily depends on electrical equipment as a mission-critical asset and utilizing EMSDs such as IR windows to inspect the condition of electrical equipment is the most efficient way to mitigate risks of electrical failure such as arc flash,” explained Martin Robinson, CEO of IRISS. “Achieving DNV certification is further proof that IRISS industrial-grade IR windows are designed to sustain the harshest environmental conditions.”

DNV helps customers to ensure accurate safety and reliability though offshore classification during all phases of the assets lifetime, i.e. design, construction and operation.

The breadth of the IRISS product range covered by the newly granted DNV approval is extensive. The VP Series comprises seven product variations to meet the needs of specific marine applications. It includes the world’s only electrical inspection windows that allow visual inspection, thermal imaging across the entire IR spectrum and UV inspection with a corona camera. This Platinum Series VPT is also shatterproof with a patented, reinforced grill that exceeds high voltage switchgear viewing pane standards. Also within the VP Series is the VP-12-US, the world’s first ultrasound port allowing for quick and effective ultrasound inspection.

The IRISS CAP Series is the second group covered by the DNV approval. For example, the Platinum CAP-T Series has the largest visually clear and IR transmissive viewing area available. The patented Poly-View System™ polymer allows fully energized systems to be thermally inspected and the larger rectangular versions of this product provide an unparalleled field of view. Additionally, the newly, released IRISS CAP-4-US which combines all of the features of an IR window and ultrasound port in one easy to install and use panel has DNV approval.

All IRISS IR windows are compatible with all brands of thermal imaging cameras commonly used in the marine and offshore environments to identify electrical and mechanical faults. Additionally, every polymer optic IR window in the VP and CAP Series is protected by the IRISS Unconditional Lifetime Warranty.
