EPA touts benefits of recycling with approach of America Recycles Day (11/13)

Nov. 15, 2008, marks the eleventh anniversary of America Recycles Day, a day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products, according to a recent press release from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA is encouraging Americans to step up their personal recycling efforts to top the nation’s average recycling rate of 33.4 percent.

Cold weather raises risk of carbon monoxide poisoning (11/13)

November 13, 2008
As Americans break out the space heaters and portable generators to battle the onset of cold weather, the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), in a recent press statement, warns consumers of the increased danger of potential exposure to poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas from the use of such appliances. Other possible sources of risk include furnaces, water heaters, stoves, ovens, wood and gas fireplaces, wood-burning stoves and automobile engines.

NSF announces first company in North America to earn ISO 21469 certification (11/13)

NSF announced in a recent press release that KL Texas, L.P. (dba Summit Industrial Products), a worldwide leader in synthetic lubricant technology, is the first company in North America to receive certification to ISO 21469: Safety of machinery — Lubricants with Incidental Product Contact — Hygiene requirements.

Shermco Industries accepted for OSHA's VPP Challenge Pilot Program (11/12)

Shermco Industries, a provider of rotating apparatus and electrical power system testing, commissioning, repair, maintenance and training, announced this week in a press statement that it has been accepted into the Challenge Pilot Program, a part of OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).

New research published by the Quebec Occupational Health and Safety Research Institute (IRSST) examines, for the second time, literature on the health risks of nanoparticles (NP), according to an IRSST news release. The review reveals the scope of research in the field and that the toxic effects of NP on humans and animals are only partially understood.
