Fla. construction worker has foot crushed by crane

An OSHA investigation into an accident in which a construction worker had his foot and ankle crushed has led to multiple citations against two companies. The employee suffered the injuries at a Fort Lauderdale, Florida worksite when the lattice boom section of a crane fell on him during disassembly.

Holland Township, MN — A man tiling a field in central Minnesota died on Friday morning in a workplace accident. The construction company employee was installing drainage tile in the field near 60th Street SW and 150th Avenue SW in Holland Township when the accident was reported just before noon.

Worker with no fall protection plunges to his death in Mass.

November 12, 2018
OSHA has cited Northeast Framing Inc. – based in Lunenberg, Massachusetts – for exposing workers to falls and other hazards following an employee’s fatal fall at an East Boston, Massachusetts, worksite in May 2018. The company faces $311,330 in penalties, the maximum allowed by law.

OSHA issues final rule on crane operator cert. requirements

November 8, 2018
OSHA yesterday published a final rule that clarifies certification requirements for crane operators, and maintains the employer’s duty to ensure that crane operators can safely operate the equipment. The agency says the regulation will maintain safety and health protections for workers while reducing compliance burdens.

Carpenter accidentally fires nail gun at his own arm; company cited

November 5, 2018
Nail gun safety came into focus during a recent Cal/OSHA investigation of an April 17 accident at a Lake Forest worksite in which a carpenter was seriously injured. The worker, who was using an air pressure-powered nail gun to frame wood, was carrying the nail gun in his right hand with his finger on the trigger when a nail was unintentionally discharged into his left arm.

Construction worker falls from roof, into dumpster

October 31, 2018
OSHA is investigating the death of a 56-year old man in an accident yesterday at a Paterson, New Jersey worksite. According to a statement by Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, police responded to the address at approximately 9:18 a.m. in response to a reported construction accident.
